What truly is logic? Who decides reason? My quest has taken me to the physical, the metaphysical, the delusional, and back. I have made the most important discovery of my career – the most important discovery of my life. It is only in the mysterious equations of love that any logic or reasons can be found. I am only here tonight because of you. You are the only reason I am. You are all my reasons. – John Nash
This past weekend, a beautiful mind passed away. Not only was he actually the professor that the movie “A Beautiful Mind” was based on, but he was a quite brilliant and beautiful mind in his personal life overcoming tremendous drawbacks due to his battle with paranoid schizophrenia. He was one of the greatest mathematicians of the 20th century and he was awarded the Nobel prize for economics as he revolutionized both the world of mathematics and economics.
For a man who’s life was ruled by logic, developing strategies, with an innate gift for numbers and seeing the solution and the pattern behind them, it’s always amazing to see what he valued most in life – love, and particularly the love for his wife and how that love was the one thing that saved him from a world of paranoia, from getting lost in the labyrinth of his own thoughts.
For all of us ruled by logic out there, I can’t help but wonder how much farther we would go in life if we just allowed love to be our reason and our logic, if we just let the magic of it unravel in our lives.
