The Point Of No Return

ThePointOfNoReturnHave you ever had that feeling that at least with certain things in your life, you have reached a point of no return? And yes, I know you can’t go back in time unless you have a fancy DeLorean, but with certain things in life we get a second change, maybe even a third or a fourth and with others we’ve gone through so many changes or maybe we just had one chance, you just know you’re at the point of no return.

There are a few things you can do once you’ve reached the point of no return to help you move past it:

  1. Acknowledge that you have reached the point of no return. Unless you realize you are the point of no return in a specific matter, unless you acknowledge and accept it, there is no way you can move forward.
  2. Decide how much it matters to you. Sometimes you reach the point of no return only to realize that you were holding on to something that doesn’t really matter to you that much anymore. If that’s the case, release and move on. But if you decide that it matters, that the person or that particular thing has value in your life, then it’s about time you do something about it. If you’ve reached the point of no return with a person and you realize that actually do mean the world to you, then make sure they know that.
  3. Stop doing the exact same thing over and over again. Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If the solution you’re using hasn’t worked the first few times, maybe it’s time to change that. Find a different way, find a few different ways and try them until you find the one that works.
  4. Allow time for healing. Sometimes reaching the point of no return can be painful. Allow yourself time to heal and do what you need to do about that. Maybe you need to take a step back from everything, maybe you need to spend time with happy friends. There is one caveat here, which most people miss. Burying yourself in alcohol or food will not help you heal, it will help you temporarily forget only to come back and feel the pain even stronger.
  5. Set a goal. What do you want to achieve once you’ve passed the point of no return? Do you want to heal a relationship? Do you want to release the pain? Do you want to create something new? Whatever your goal is, make sure you keep your eyes on the goal and you do everything in your power to achieve it.
